Jeanne Calment set the record for the longest human lifespan at 122 years, while Pat the mouse holds the record for the oldest mouse at just over nine and a half years. This vast difference in lifespans among mammals, from the short-lived shrew to the long-lived bowhead whale, has intrigued scientists. Dr. Steve Horvath and his team at UCLA have found that epigenetics—chemical tags on our DNA—play a significant role in determining lifespan. Their research shows that these epigenetic markers, which change with age and life events, can accurately predict key life stages and maximum lifespan across different species.

These chronotypes—bear, wolf, lion, and dolphin—help you understand the best times for sleeping, eating, working, and socializing. Knowing your chronotype can boost your productivity by aligning your activities with your natural rhythms. For instance, bears follow the sun’s cycle, wolves peak in the evening, lions thrive in the early morning, and dolphins have erratic sleep patterns but peak productivity mid-morning.
