10,000 steps a day has become a popular metric due to the increasing popularity of wearable fitness technology such as Fitbit and the Apple Watch. And while taking more steps is and staying mobile are important to your health, you may be surprised to hear that the 10,000 step recommendation evolved from a marketing campaign. According to a 2019 study, your target steps depends on your age – 8,000 to 10,000 steps if you are under 60 and 6,000 to 8,000 if you are over 60.
