FINANCES

For those of you in Massachusetts, state legislators have agreed on a $1 billion tax relief bill. Of particular interest are two provisions. The first provision increases the threshold for a taxable estate from $1 million to $2 million. This is especially important given that the median listing home price in Greater Boston hit a high of $900,000 over the summer. The second provision is a decrease in short-term capital gains rates from 12% to 8.5%.
